Happy Safer Internet Day!
Yes it’s a real thing and it’s aimed at promoting responsible use of the internet and mobile technology. To help commemorate Safer Internet Day this year, Google is giving away 2 free and permanent gigabytes towards your Google Drive account. The additional amount of storage space will automatically be added to the 17 GB a free account already provides so that you can save your pictures and documents.
How do you get this free 2 GB you ask? Simple. Take a few minutes to go through the Google Security Checkup and the space will be all yours. Even if Google wasn’t giving away anything free, the security checkup is worth going through. It’s a perfect time to change that Google password that you haven’t changed in 5 years, disassociate old devices from your account, turn on two factor authentication if you wish and see all applications that have permission to access your Google account.
Just in case you don’t believe me, here’s a screenshot of Google granting me 2 additional gigabytes of storage space to my drive account. The process took roughly five minutes to go through.
